Now Hiring: One Extrovert
May 14th, 2010 by jenzug

Description:
Introverted mom seeking extrovert for translating communications with extroverted daughter.
Common misunderstood phrases include (but are not limited to):
“But I don’t want to be alone outside!” when asked to take out the recycling.
“But I don’t want to be alone in my room!” when asked to get dressed.
“But I don’t want to be alone!” when asked to stay in her room until 7am.
Requirements:
Ability to explain dislike for being alone; must be available on call.
Be warned: what you see here is not my best work. It is what Anne Lamott describes in Bird By Bird as a series of “shitty first drafts.” Blogging dragged me kicking and screaming out of creative constipation by getting me to actually write. So I do that. A lot. Without worrying about every word choice or comma placement.

Yeah, I’m totally with her on all those things. I hate going to the grocery store by myself… hate being at home alone… My advice would be books- they were a godsend to me as an extroverted child with introverted parents.
I could have written that. Daughter… close to Ruthie’s age… same thing. I don’t get it. Neither does little sister who, as you can imagine, is constantly under pressure to be the company…
