batting a thousand

I just noticed the stats in my WordPress dashboard this morning, indicating I’ve written 1,000 posts to this blog.
1,000.
One Thousand.
1,000 shitty first drafts that didn’t exist several years ago.
1,000 times I sat down to write something, and did.
1,000 times I didn’t freeze while staring at a blank screen.
1,000 times I didn’t delete something because I thought it wasn’t perfect.
1,000 posts – the equivalent of 2 3/4 years if I assume one post written per day.
I’ve been writing for almost three years of my life. Literally.
I think that’s quite a milestone, don’t you?
Be warned: what you see here is not my best work. It is what Anne Lamott describes in Bird By Bird as a series of “shitty first drafts.” Blogging dragged me kicking and screaming out of creative constipation by getting me to actually write. So I do that. A lot. Without worrying about every word choice or comma placement.

I think it’s awesome!
I love to go back and re-read my older posts. I swear it’s like someone else wrote them and it reminds me how fleeting the moment is unless you capture it. Kudos to you for capturing so many of them so well.
Absolutely! Kudos all around.
That’s amazing!! Here’s to 1,000 more
Congratulations! I should look at my total. I don’t write much now that I have Twitter and Facebook to distract me!
